Netflix Drops Trailer New Korean Drama The Silent Sea

Following the success of Squid Game,  the show largely responsible for gathering a global interest in South Korean Netflix Originals, the streaming platform has debuted a teaser for its upcoming series The Silent Sea. The sci-fi mystery thriller series is adapted from the short film The Sea of Tranquility directed by Choi Hang-yong, who will also direct the Netflix series. Set in the year 2075 with the depletion of Earth’s resources, the plot centers around a team of space specialists embarking on a routine 24-hour mission to retrieve samples from an abandoned lunar Balhae Base research station. It’s then revealed and only 10% of crew members are expected to survive.

The Silent Sea: Netflix release date

The Silent Sea is currently scheduled to release worldwide on Friday, December 24th, coinciding with Christmas Eve. Season 1 of The Silent Sea will consist of eight episodes, each around 45 minutes in duration, all of which are expected to premiere on Christmas Eve.

The adaptation of Hang-yong’s short film was announced in December 2019 with the lead actors Gong Yoo and Bae Doona being revealed in April 2020, being later joined by Heo Sung-tae and Lee Moo-saeng in September. The Silent Sea will serve as Netflix’s final Korean series of 2021, with this year’s original shows including Love Alarm, Sweet Home, My Name, DP, Move to Heaven, So Not Worth It, the recently released Hellbound and the global phenomenon, Squid Game.
